And the wildflowers have a wonderful lesson to teach…
An excerpt from Chapter 4 of Hinds’ Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard.
“I have often wondered about the wildflowers” she said. “It does seem strange that such unnumbered multitudes should bloom in the wild places of the earth where perhaps nobody ever sees them and the goats and cattle can walk over them and crush them to death. They have so much beauty and sweetness to give and no one on whom to lavish it, nor who will even appreciate it.”
The look the Shephered turned on her was very beautiful. “Nothing my Father and I have made is ever wasted” he said quietly,”and the little wildfloweoros have a wonderful lesson to teach. They offer themselves so sweetly and confidently and willingly, even if it seems that there is no one to appreciate them. Just as though they sang a joyous little sont to themselves, that it is so happy to love, even though one is not loved in return.
Some of you may alrelady be wondering what on earth am I posting in my tumblr (which just so happens to invade my FB account too), at close intervals even! And the quotes may sound a little too Emo perhaps. Hopefully that’s not what you guys are thinking. I’m snug as a bug in my room curling up with a book that I went hunting for, the only copy that I ever found hid in the DLSU library since 1984. It looks and smells like an old book too! But it is quite a gem, I’m just in chapter four and I find sections that just strike a chord in my heart.
Anyway, I have always liked flowers as a child. Some afternoons I’d drag everyone else along to pick some, but then after a while, I figured it must hurt the flowers when I pick them out and keep them to myself. So from then on, I’ve come to the conclusion that they are best left where they are so they can bloom. Flowers are wonderful things, whether or not we notice them, they never fail to make our world beautiful. Perhaps this is why I gravitated towards this idea :)
